I actually just got done writing this letter to my sister for her boyfriend and after I finished it, I thought, you know… a lot of people need to read this. So here it is:
——————————–
When I was training clients a lot, I used to give them this little mini speech, but I used it with myself as well. I learned it’s core message in Al-anon from my sponsor.
It goes like this face to face:
Me: So are you willing to go to any lengths to achieve your goal of a lean, fit body?
Client: Absolutely (It’s funny, they always say that and they don’t even know what is going to require of them at this point).
Me: Really? Any lengths?
Client: yes, absolutely. I want this sooooooooo bad, I’ll do whatever it takes!
Me: {I tell them how to do it, just like I did in my last email to you. Super simple, eat 4-6 times a day, only to stop the hunger, no more, ramp up your protein massively, [ even more important if you lift weights or even do a lot of cardio ].
Client: Oh, yeah, man I am all over it. I am gonna do this thing!
————————————- weeks go by, they workout regularly, but they are not shedding the pounds ——————
Client: man this just isn’t working. I thought you told me if I did what you said it would work?!
Me: { I already know it works, so I know they did NOT do what I said, so I have to now grill them to get them to admit they did NOT follow through, which they ALWAYS DO. }
There is usually silence and I can see they are already giving up in their minds.
Me: Remember when you said you were willing to go to any lengths to achieve this goal?
Client: Yes.
Me: Well, next time you are getting ready to eat the second half of your sandwich when you are suppoed to be stopping (this is the hardest part), remember how you told me you are willing to go to any length. If you are not even willing to give up half a sandwich, you really aren’t willing to go to ANY lengths to do this, so stop fooling yourself. The first requirement to achieve any goal is honesty with yourself. The second part is to come up with an HONEST plan that you ARE willing to commit to with tenacity. All goals require sacrifice, ALL goals. So if you are not willing to sacrifice some eating pleasure, you really don’t want this, you just want to want it. There is a big difference between wanting something and wanting to want to something. If you want something, you do what it takes, if you just want to want it, you are not willing to lift a finger to get it and you will never get it.
The world is filled with those who just want to want. They have nothing but regrets. Those who really want things, get them and are generally very satisfied. Don’t answer this to me, but which kind are you?
———————————————–
97% of all clients quit shortly after and remain in their fat state permanently. 3% make the commitment and get the results and their lives are changed forever, not just body transformation, but they finally see what it takes to achieve and they apply it in other areas of their lives.
